One of Canada's largest and oldest privately-owned Victorian mansions, open to the public year round as an elegant Bed & Breakfast, The Highland Manor sits atop the west hill of Owen Sound, overlooking Georgian Bay and the historic harbour city below. Once a private maternity hospital with over 2,000 births being recorded here, this 130-year-old, 7500 sq.ft. edifice is now a peaceful, private site for corporate meetings, weddings, reunions, or simply a quiet getaway. The house is decorated in Victorian and Edwardian style, with stained glass windows, vintage antiques, and memorabilia. A vintage caged elevator carries baggage as guests make their way up the grand hallway staircase winding 40 feet high. A full gourmet breakfast is served in the opulent style of the formal estate dining room. The large wrap around covered outdoor verandah invites you to curl up with a good book or just simply daydream. A warm welcome awaits guests at this wonderful old house.

So much of the past has been lost. You now have the chance to relive what was truly the romantic age: The Victorian era. Very few of these homes have survived the hands of time. Even fewer are open to the public to enjoy. As one of our guests said so well: "I have now been a part of history. I can see the world has lost so much of what was so important years ago - solitude and the time to enjoy it".
