Entering Ontario from New York State by crossing into Canada at the Niagara River either at Fort Erie in the south or Niagara Falls in the north, places you in the eastern gateway to Ontario's Famous Niagara Peninsula. The Niagara Tourism Region is famous for Niagara and Horseshoe Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Welland Canal, the Shaw Festival and their world renowned vineyards wineries. The region extends westward the cities of St. Catherines and Hamilton which form the southern arm of Ontario's "Golden Horseshoe". Further to the south in a more rural area, are the towns of Port Colborne, Welland, Dunville, Simcoe and Port Dover. Modern super highways connect Greater Buffalo and NY's Niagara Frontier with the urban centers of Toronto and Detroit, Michigan. |
