The Tourism Region of Thousand Islands - Kingston is situated on the St Lawrence River in Eastern Ontario along the border of New York State to the south. The Trenton, Bellville and Napanee are towns that lie in this region to the west. Kingston, Gananoque and Cornwall are the principal towns along the River. The area is served by super highways leading from Greater Toronto, to Greater Montreal in neighbouring Quebec and Ottawa, our nation's capital, to the north.
Steeped in three centuries of grand Canadian history, Kingston is the oldest city in Ontario and served as the first capaital of the Provnce of Canada. It is also renowned as the fresh-water sailing capital of North America and prides itself in being a major port for scenic entertainment cruises of the breathtaking Thousand Islands. It is the home of the Royal Military College, Fort Henry/Kingston, Queens University and many other important Canadian institutions.
