| Western Ontario is the largely rural corridor leading from the Toronto/Hamilto urban areas to Windsor/Detroit. Superhighways 401 and 402 bisect this tourism region. In the east, Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge are bustling educational and commercial centers with a strong German inlfuence. Visit their Octoberfest for a taste of Germany in the New World. Yes, beer and sausage are served! Slightly to the west Stratford-on-Avon hosts the Stratford Shakespearean Festival. Along the north shore of Lake Erie are numerous beaches, parks and wildlife refuges. London in the center is an educational, commercial and insurance center. Sarnia, on the southern tip of Lake Huron, is an industrial and petrochemical area but importantly includes the pristine shoreline of Lake Huron immediately to the north as far as Port Elgin. Industrial Windsor, located between Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River is the gateway to America's Heartland and home to a world famous casino and amusement park on an island in the Detroit River. |
